Languages and me

I’m Laura, passionate about languages.

At University I studied English and German, but I have always thought that language teaching in Spain left a lot to be desired. The classes were very busy and focused on doing exercises or learning vocabulary. Talk, just a bit.

I remember that in 1st year German class, to correct the exercises, each one had to say a sentence; so we counted what sentence we were going to get to prepare it beforehand.

I studied for the fourth year of my degree in Austria and when I arrived, it was challenging for me to understand and make myself understood in German, so integrating was difficult.

I did check that they dedicated many more hours to languages than we did in Spain, and also, the effectiveness of classes focused on communication.

When I finished my degree, I went to Ireland to work and, although I had studied English for many years, it was a shock at first too.

I remember taking the orders in the cafeteria as they sounded because I didn’t understand them.

All these experiences have helped me, as a Spanish teacher, to see how crucial comprehensive learning is. You have to speak from the beginning and listen to Spanish in different contexts.

Culture is also part of learning and is essential to avoid misunderstandings.

Languages are an important part of my life. They have opened many doors for me and I have met wonderful people thanks to them. That is why I will be delighted to accompany you on your path with Spanish.

And although this page is called “About Me”, this is about you. Do you want to give your Spanish a boost? Get ready and let’s get started!
